SPARKcon is a free multi-day, multi-discipline, multi-venue festival in downtown Raleigh NC that celebrates creativity and accessibility!
Produced by the non-profit creativity incubator, VAE Raleigh, SPARKcon is an open source festival that takes place each September (since 2006!) in Downtown Raleigh as part of the city's MAIN EVENTS showcase.
SPARKcon uses an open-source organizational approach to empower creative thinkers to be inspiring community leaders and is open to any passionate individual or group who wants to get involved. The ideas and showcases come from inspired people who have the ingenuity to say “What if…?” and the motivation to then help make it happen. The event operates on a grass roots—each SPARK fundraises and uses the money from their pockets and the pockets of others who are excited to support local creativity.
The "SPARK" in SPARKcon speaks to the various creative themes such as art, music, film, fashion, geek, circus, etc. that is programmed throughout the four-day festival put together by passionate volunteers who share their expertise and who are deeply embedded in provided opportunities for accessible arts. Using a combination of networking and open calls for participants, organizers create diverse and representative events to show off local talent and connect disparate creative scenes.
Acclaimed for being the Creative Hub of the South, SPARKcon culminates diverse creative efforts in the Triangle and fulfills VAE's mission to support and provide opportunities for artists and connect the community to the arts.
SPARKcon was founded in 2006 by Beth and Aly Khalifa and Designbox to showcase, celebrate and influence the creative momentum of the Triangle region of North Carolina.
